Members of the Barbour County Board of Education met in a special called meeting Friday at 5 p.m. and then on Saturday at 8 a.m. in an emergency meeting to approve the minutes of Friday evening’s meeting.
Expressions of appreciation were shown by many people who attended a retirement reception held for Louisville’s longtime Chief of Police, Gene Hamric, Sunday afternoon. Hamric, who began as a patrolman in Louisville in 1994, has served as the police chief since 2023.
Law enforcement officers are asking for help in their search for two men suspected of robbing the convenience store in Midway late Sunday afternoon. The two suspects entered the convenience store located at the Highway 82 and County Road 47 intersection about 6:20 p.m.

The Clayton Senior Center is once again bustling with activities. Participants are again enjoying fellowship with each other’s company, entertainment, and the challenges that games bring to the table. Hopefully, at the beginning of October, meals will once again be served at the center.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) is changing schedules for upcoming Kickoff Classic football games because of increasing summer heat. Weather experts have issued warnings about high temperatures this week. Games planned to start an hour later are now set to begin at 8 p.m.
With the 2023-2024 dove season starting in little less than two weeks away, it’s a time for hunter’s to get their shotguns cleaned and ready to use. It is also a good time to review some of the basics of the hunting season.
