A new license plate will be available on December 1. The “Supporting Our Sheriffs” tags, based on pre-commitment orders have been sent to each county. The $50 additional fee will support the Alabama Sheriff’s Foundation. The fees will be used to provide education training and technology assistance to sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, sheriff’s employees, and local law enforcement partners. Reality challenges for newspapers

News that The Huntsville Times, The Birmingham News and The Mobile Press Register newspapers will soon be gone, replaced by online publications, raises memories, worries and hopes. I confess to nostalgia for the culture, urgency and camaraderie of newspaper newsrooms; the thrill of seeing the press roll; the satisfaction of holding the paper just minutes after completing work on it; the eagerness of readers to see it; the feeling that the newspaper was, as my former employer The Decatur Daily calls itself, “a valuable part of your day.” I fondly remember manual typewriters, handset type, Linotype slugs best read upside down and left to right, rubber cement in oil cans, proportion wheels and darkrooms.
