Board members express appreciation

Members of the Barbour County Board of Education in attendance at this month’s regular board meeting gave unanimous approvals to all the superintendent’s recommendations. The meeting brought praises from members who thanked the public, all school personnel, parents, and students for their support in providing quality educational opportunities.

Happy New Year 2023

The closing of the Year 2022 has been quite interesting in Barbour County. We experienced one of the coldest, long lasting, winter storm in decades causing thermometers to dip below the freezing mark for several days. Even with our unusual weather conditions, we feel very blessed when we see what others in the northern states are experiencing. We have subscribers who will not get their papers this week until later because post offices have been forced to close and nobody can endure these harsh weather conditions. We also have family and friends who are having to deal with this storm, so after all, we are blessed in south Alabama just to be experiencing ice and freezing temperatures!

One of the featured focal points is the live Fraser Fir that is filled with many handmade ornaments.

Church members gathered for the annual tradition of decorating the Chrismon tree that glitters with small white lights and gold and white ornaments that were created by members of the church beginning several generations past. The newest ornaments have been contributed to the church by a fourth generation of those tediously placing the gold accents on white styrofoam.

Think before not getting permit

Pistol permits will no longer be required to carry a concealed handgun in Alabama as of January 1, 2023. The bill passed and signed into law drew opposition from sheriffs and police across the state, who said the permit requirement helped protect the public and helped prevent and solve crimes.
