Man killed in early morning wreck

An early morning collision involving two commercial vehicles near Eufaula resulted in the death of one of the drivers. The accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 82, about four miles from Eufaula, at 3:40 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, claimed the life of Michael Lashon Stewart, 49, of Cuthbert, GA, according to a report released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Deputies arrest Clayton man

Three Barbour County deputies arrested a Clayton man on South Midway Street on several charges. The deputies observed a black Ford Explorer in which the driver was not wearing a safety belt traveling toward the Marathon Convenience Store on South Midway Street.

Louisville police chief assaulted

Louisville Police Chief Eugene Hamric was in his office Monday afternoon when an unorderly person entered town hall and began to assault him. Chief Hamric reported that the suspect, identified as Michael Deramus of Louisville, came into Town Hall and started talking to the clerk at the window.

County officials take oaths of office

Three elected officials in Barbour County are beginning new terms in office after officially taking their oaths of office Thursday at the courthouse in Eufaula. Circuit Judge Burt Smithart of Union Springs, District Judge Matt Horne, and Sheriff Tyrone Smith were sworn into office after their re-elections in the November General Election.

TORNADO RIPS THROUGH COUNTY

A tornado that ripped through Barbour County Thursday afternoon caused structural damages, toppled trees and downed power lines primarily in the southern part of the county. Shown above is the damage the twister caused to the Maintenance Shop at Blue Springs State Park that suffered major damage along with equipment. The left picture shows Springhill Baptist Church on County Road 53 near Blue Springs.
