BCHS holds college & career fair

In recognition of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, Barbour County Schools Career Coach, JaCory Haslam, hosted a well-represented college and career fair for the juniors and seniors of Barbour County High School on February 23, 2023, in the high school gymnasium. Over 30 colleges, universities, employers, and armed forces representatives participated in this fair provided to give Barbour County High School students access to college and career information along with resources to assist them with being successful citizens beyond high school.

Legislature to appropriate ARPA funds

Supplemental appropriations from the American Rescue Plan Act in the amount of more than $1 billion will be allocated to provide additional funding for needed projects in the state. The Alabama Legislature convened Tuesday for the 2023 Regular Session and will then adjourn to enter into a Special Session on Wednesday for the purpose of appropriating the 2nd Tranche of Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Funds.

County deputies arrest Clio man on drug charges

Due to the alertness of Sgt. Dale Green drugs and a large amount of cash were confiscated and an arrest was made on February 22 in Clio. Sgt. Green was traveling on River Road when he passed a vehicle and thought he smelled marijuana. He followed the vehicle and ran the tag number and found the vehicle had an expired tag. Sgt. Green continued to follow the vehicle onto a dirt road off River Road. After the vehicle stopped in an old drive, Sgt. Green approached the individual who had existed the vehicle and moved to the front of the vehicle. Sgt. Green saw a bag containing a crystal like substance on the ground where Wilson had apparently thrown it out. It was found to be 112 grams of methamphetamine.
