Special agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation have been visible in Clayton investigating crimes. Burglaries at the Alabama Beverage Control store and the Sunoco Convenience Store on April 24 as well as a separate shooting incident on May 2 have kept them busy.

Downtown Eufaula will be safer for pedestrians and motorists with a new roundabout at the intersection of North Orange Street and East Broad Street. This week motorists were cautioned about the work that closed the area on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Investigations are ongoing to identify burglars who broke into two businesses in Clayton early Monday morning. Burglars broke into the Alabama Beverage Control store in downtown Clayton on Eufaula Avenue taking an undetermined amount of liquor and causing considerable amount of damage to the building and equipment.
The Organized Community Action Program Inc. has been awarded a grant in the amount of $528,009 to assist low-income and elderly residents with weatherizing their homes to lower energy costs.
Barbour County commissioners will begin the process to tackle a major project that will involve the renovations, repairs, or replacement of the eleoperable vator in the county courthouse in Clayton. They have scheduled a special called meeting to be held Monday at 9 a.m.
Christopher Kelly, 37, and Hunter Kelly, 25, of Eufaula have been arrested and charged with first-degree insurance fraud. The brothers received an insurance payout of more than $11,000 to cover the losses sustained during an alleged burglary that happened in July 2020.
Construction began Monday on an Alabama Department of Transportation highway project on Highway 51 in Barbour County. The project consists of resurfacing and a new traffic stripe on the highway from the Bullock County line to the intersection of Highway 239 in Clayton.
