ART SHOW WINNER Justin Dennis

Justin Dennis, a senior at Eufaula High School, shows the art that won him third place in Category I at the 2022 Alabama State Department of Education Superintendent’s Visual Art Exhibit. An awards ceremony will take place on March 9 at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery. Justin started painting at the age of 15 and has entered his art in one other competition, The Lake Eufaula Clean Up 2021. He won first place in that competition. Justin is taught at Eufaula High School by Catherine Edwards. He is a member of the National Honor Society of High School Scholars. The son of Shemika Jett, Justin has been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA where he plans to attend in the Fall.

Queens visit with commissioners

Barbour County queens introduced themselves to Barbour County Commissioners during their regular meeting held in Eufaula last week. Utility assistance funds in jeopardy

Four municipalities in Barbour County could lose a total of $90,000 in public utility assistance funds approved in a CDBG-CV grant application. Barbour County commissioners are holding out on issuing the grant funds to the municipalities after concerns were raised whether they could issue “a thing of value” to individuals in violation of the state constitution which is different from federal guidelines.

Barbour County 75% unserved

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) released the Alabama Connectivity Plan last week ahead of the 2022 Alabama legislative session along with a map that demonstrates which areas of the state are served with high speed internet.

Face mask mandate reinstated

It’s deja vu once again now that anyone entering county buildings will be required to wear a face mask. Less than three months from lifting face mask mandates in county buildings, Barbour County commissioners have reinstated the requirement.
