BEAUTIFUL OLD TOWN BELL - These ladies can be seen most anywhere in Clayton making improvements to areas in town. Most recently they were seen again at the Clayton cemetery placing wood chips in the flower bed around the old Town Bell. Shown are Jolene Gothard, Carol Wade, Betty Lee, and Ruth Smith.The stately day lilies have been in full bloom as a show place for the town bell that was moved from the square in downtown Clayton to its current location in the Clayton cemetery. The bell at one time served an extremely important purpose when it was rung to let the townspeople know that there was a fire in town.
