Mr. Barnie Shirah, age 90 of Skipperville passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 at his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 202 at Sykes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends at Keahey Funeral Home (1411 Blue Springs Street, Clio, AL 36017) one hour prior to the graveside services. Rev. Danny Rieben officiated the service. Serving as pallbearers were David McCleskey, Stephen Hamm, Xanthe Castillo, Charles Shirah, Tim Shirah, and Keith Phillips. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sykes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
Barnie was born June 23, 1932 in the Skipperville area. His parents were Charlie Shirah and Odie Hagler Shirah. He married his sweetheart, Maxine Roberts, and their 68th wedding anniversary would be on October 2, 2022, the day he was being laid to rest. Barnie was a lifelong farmer, producing large crops of peanuts and corn and always being an outstanding cattleman. In their younger years, the couple loved to join other motorcycle enthusiast and made many trips throughout the U.S. He was a member of Glad Tidings Holiness Church and will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years, Maxine Roberts Shirah; daughter and son-in-law, Celena and David McCleskey of Skipperville; grandchildren, Morgan Castillo and husband Xanthe of Skipperville; Stephen Hamm and wife Megan of Dothan; great grandchildren, Isaiah Castillo, Grayson Hamm, Charlee Hamm and Riley Hamm. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Hamm.
