CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAY - Mrs. Bennie Mae Thomas, a native of Clayton, who currently resides in Oakland, CA with her daughters, celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month. One of Mrs. Thomas’ daughters with whom she lives, Barbara Ann Butts Cogar, is a 1962 graduate of Barbour County Training School. Mrs. Cogar does fund raisers in California for the Twelve Stones Community Garden in Clayton. These funds are used to help provide scholarships for Barbour County High School graduates each year through the F.C. Britt Scholarship Fund. The fund was initiated by Barbour County High School alumni. Affectionately known as “Mrs. Bennie”, she is also the mother of Dorothy Butts Freeman, Lillie Butts Faniel, Merinda Morris and the late L.C. Butts, all alumni of Barbour County Training School.
