Johnny Leroy Canfield, a resident of Clayton, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at his residence. He was 74 years old.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Clayton Baptist Church in Clayton, Alabama with Rev. Shane Traylor officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. A visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the VFW Auxiliary, c/o Peggy Messer- 1556 N. Eufaula Ave. Eufaula, Alabama 36027. Graveside services with military honors were held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. EST at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, Alabama with Rev. Shane Traylor officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing.
John was born July 1, 1949 in Wood County, West Virigina to the late Samuel Ralph and Laura Leota McKitrick Canfield. He was a veteran of the United States Army and obtained his Regents Bachelor of Arts degree from Glenville State University. John retired after 32 years of service from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department West Virginia. He was a member and Commander of the VFW Post 5850 in Eufaula, Alabama, Masonic Lodge, President of the Lions Club, NRA, DAV, and the American Legion. John enjoyed reading, watching science fiction movies, but most of all he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather to his children that he loved so much. John was a member of Clayton Baptist Church and was an interim pastor for many churches in their times of need.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, William James Canfield, and sister, Janet Louise McCoy.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Stephanie Eline Parsons Canfield; two sons, Michael Wayne Canfield and wife, Leslie of Ozark, Alabama and Shaun David Canfield and wife, Nadine of Eufaula, Alabama; daughter, Stephanie Angelena Canfield and partner, Jarrod Jenks of Waterford, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Joshua, Rebecca, Jonathon, Benjamin, Chase, Nicholas, Joel, Sophie, Reid, Samuel, and eight great-grandchildren.
