Mr. Joseph Wayne Griffin, a resident of Clayton, Alabama, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023 at his residence. He was 75 years old.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at
Parkview Baptist Church in Eufaula, Alabama with Rev. Glenn Brock, Rev. Herman Parker, and Rev. Barry Fleming officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. Burial will follow in the Adams Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Clayton, Alabama. A visitation will be held Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Parkview Baptist Church in Eufaula, Alabama from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.
Wayne was born October 21, 1947 in Clayton, Alabama to the late Remus Albert and Bonnie Kate Hartzog Griffin. He was a 1966 graduate of Bakerhill High School and attended Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama. After school he joined the Alabama Army National Guard where he served for 32 years and was a recruiter for 27 ½ years. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Bluff City Bass Masters. Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, farming, and anything his grandchildren were involved in. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church for 51 years and taught the adult Sunday school class for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rothel Griffin; brotherin- law, Howard White; sister-in-law, Becke Griffin; niece, Donna White.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, DeeDee Griffin; two daughters, Stephanie Howell (Alan) of Webb, Alabama and Jennifer Benefield (Jason) of Clayton, Alabama; brother, Mitchell Griffin of Clayton, Alabama; sister, Katie White of Prattville, Alabama; five grandchildren, Delaney Hollihan (David), Jalan Howell, Mary Catherine Howell, Braydan Benefield, and Conleigh Benefield; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Griffin and several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Ang Schramm, William Fleming, Sonny Richards, Paul Colson, Braydan Benefield, and Jalan Howell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Colson, Bill Blankenship, Ricky Griffin, Johnny Knight, Harold Fulk, and Steve O’Neal.
