Lynnette Meadows Jaxon, 72, of Eufaula, Alabama, passed away peacefully, surrounded by all her children and husband on June 16, 2022. Lynnette was the proud mother of four children and a loving Nana to nine grandchildren. Her greatest love was her family and she unconditionally and unselfishly showed this love daily. She was kind, dedicated, and thoughtful to all her friends and those who knew her.
Lynnette was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Paul and Jane Meadows in 1949. She had three siblings, David, Ibby, and Dan. She graduated from Ramsey High School and made her way to the University of Montevallo where she met the love of her life, Jay Jaxon. She and Jay started their married life in the fall of 1969 together in Eufaula, Alabama where she became a beloved member of the community. Lynnette worked at The Eufaula Tribune at the start of her time in Eufaula and later dedicated time to the Eufaula City Schools in public relations. Besides focusing on her family, Lynnette was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling to see her children, grandchildren, and exploring new places with Jay. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, her children’s schools and activities, the Christ Child Circle, The Lanier Club, and the Garden Club.
To say that Lynnette will be missed by her family and friends is an understatement. She and Jay (Bubba) created Camp Nana & Bubba for their nine grandchildren at their family home. Nana provided endless loaves of pumpkin bread and pound cake (of which she is “famous” for in Eufaula), walks in the woods, golf cart rides, mud pies, lightning bugs, stargazing, more ice cream than necessary, Uno tournaments, and anything else her grandchildren ever wanted or needed.
She instilled a great love of family time, lovingly referred to as “Jaxon Family Lockdown” by friends. While all seasons were special to Lynnette, Christmas was her favorite time of year. She truly enjoyed ensuring all family and friends felt the Christmas spirit. With her beloved husband, she loved watching the birds and sunset through the trees on their back porch while enjoying a glass of wine together. It was her favorite time of the day. Lynnette is truly cherished and loved, and leaves behind a strong legacy of strength, deter mination, and loving others through her children and grandchildren.
Lynnette was preceded in death by her brother, David Meadows, and parents, Jane and Paul Meadows. Lynnette is survived by husband Jay Jaxon, Jr., four children, Jennifer Jones (Chris), JJ Jaxon, III (Catherine), Chrisi Prescott (Mike), and Carrie Jaxon Arteta (Alberto); nine grandchildren, Jaxon, Connor, Niall, Everett, Harper, Ethan, Jay, James, and Alexandra; and siblings, Ibby White (Richard) and Dan Meadows (Ingrid); and sister in law, Sara Meadows.
There will be a visitation starting at 1:00 pm and service immediately following at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Eufaula, Alabama on Thursday, June 23, 2022. The family invites you to join them after the service for a reception at Eufaula Country Club to celebrate the cherished life of Lynnette Jaxon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Spencer Cancer Center/East Alabama Medical Center Foundation, 2501 Village Professional Drive, Opelika, Alabama 36081. Chapman Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
