Evelyn Luvenia Wilson Sanders, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, finished her race, kept the faith, and entered into eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, February 25, 2022 at the age of 94.
Visitation was held Monday, February 28, 2022 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Louisville, Alabama from 11:30 a.m. until the funeral service started at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Curtis Rich and Rev. John Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial followed the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were her great-grandsons, Chandler Zimmerman, Asa Button, Darrell Wood, Rosten Zimmerman, as well as Harold Currie and Bill Gates.
A lifelong resident of Barbour County, Mrs. Luvenia was a well-known icon in the community for her beautiful red hair and always having her lips painted. She met her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Doil Sanders, at age 13. They married and lived a wonderful, long life together for over 65 years until he passed away back in 2013. He had eyes only for her and treated her like she was the only girl in the world. “Granny”, as she was so sweetly called by everyone around, loved church activities, fellowships, and potluck dinners. She started VBS activities at her church back in the 50’s and led the women’s missionary group, as well as sang in the choir every Sunday. She always had a listening ear and a caring heart. People would call her for advice and comfort. She and granddaddy owned a big farm and raised two successful boys.
Her legacy will live on in our family—you do not leave the house without lipstick on and you always have a cake made at your house just in case company shows up. Make sure your outfits match and your hair is fixed. Make sure the people around you feel loved and cared for just like she always made them feel. Be excited and welcoming when people call or come by your house; and always work hard, because you want to have nice things. She loved so many and will be missed by all of us.
Loving survivors include her two sons, Grevlyn Sanders (Sonja), Randy Sanders (Connie); granddaughters, Tiffany Button (Jason), Bethany Wood (Darrell), Marcey Zimmerman (Shawn), Ashton Hutchison (Brian), Molly Parker (Craig); great grandchildren, Chandler Zimmerman (Hannah), Caris May (Austin), Valarey Sims (Hunter), Reecie Wood, Asa Button, Darrell Wood, Ella Wood, Rosten Zimmerman, Lucie Wood, Andrew Zimmerman, Britton Hutchison, Mary Charles “Charlie” Hutchison, Cash Hutchison, and Ellis Parker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Asa & Lura Wilson; her beloved husband, Doil Sanders; great-granddaughter, Sophie Zimmerman; and her twin brothers, LaDon Wilson and Lavon Wilson.
