Ms. Epsy Lou Matthews Ammons, age 88 and a resident of Clayton, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at her residence following an extended illness.
Graveside services were held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayton at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Don Highland and Chaplain Kevin Kelly officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ms. Ammons’ name to Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, c/o Francis Morris, 251 Bowden Road Clayton, Alabama 36016.
Ms. Ammons was born June 25, 1933 in Edwin, Alabama to the late William Matthews and Melissa Champion Matthews. She retired from Van Heusen in Clayton after 34 years. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint and made a lot of her clothing. Epsy loved flowers and gardening. She loved people and enjoyed being around her friends and family. She was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church.
Epsy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband and father of her children, DeKalb Davis and second husband, JB Ammons; two sisters, Thelma Rogers and Willie Mae Grantham.
Left to cherish her memories are three sons, Eddie Davis (Sheila) of Clayton, Jeff Davis (Dale) of Ozark, Frankie Person of Clayton; three grandchildren, Brian Davis (Ashlee), Adam Davis (Crystal), Matthew Davis; three great-grandchildren, Landon Davis, Luke Davis, and Alexis Davis.
Active pallbearers were Brian Davis, Adam Davis, Matthew Davis, Frankie Person, Mike Miller, Charles Bowden, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers included the men of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kindred Hospice for the great care they provided.
